Literary Lives, Edward Sorel

Literary Lives is a book of ten comics illustrating the darker side of the lives of famous authors such as Balzac, Tolstoy, Eliot, Proust, Sartre, Mailer, Brecht, and Yeats.  With an introduction by E. L. Doctorow, it is both a literary work and a guilty pleasure.  Sorel is one of the founders of Push Pin Studios.  His brilliant satirical work often adorns the covers of The New Yorker and graces the pages of GQ, The Nation, Vanity Fair, The New York Times Book Review, and Atlantic Monthly.

“An artist of lovely, nervous lines, Sorel belongs in such distinguished company as Honore Daumier and Thomas Nast.” -- New York Times
