Vikram Seth is the author of Three Chinese Poets, The Golden Gate: A Novel in Verse, From Heaven Lake: Travels Through Sinkiang and Tibet, Beastly Tales From Here and There, modern Aesop's Fables, and four volumes of poetry. A Suitable Boy was an international bestseller in 14 languages, a Main Selection of BOMC and a Notable Book of the Year.  

Seth was born in 1952 in Calcutta. He trained as an economist and has lived in England, California, China and India.
