Stephen Kuusisto is the author, most recently, of Only Bread, Only Light, a collection of poems from Copper Canyon, and of the acclaimed memoirs Planet of the Blind (A New York Times Notable Book) and Eavesdropping: A Memoir of Blindness and Listening, as well as Do Not Interrupt: A Playful Take on the Art of Conversation. He is at work on a memoir about his three guide dogs, forthcoming from Simon & Schuster.
He is a graduate of the Writer’s Workshop at the University of Iowa and Fulbright Scholar. He currently directs the Renee Crown University Honors Program at Syracuse, where he holds a university professorship in the Center on Human Policy, Law and Disability Studies. Kuusisto has made numerous appearances on National Public Radio and the BBC, and on programs such as The Oprah Winfrew Show and Dateline NBC. He has been published in The New York Times Magazine, Harpers and literary quarterlies. He lives with hus wife in upstate New York.
